Flaming Idols are altar candles featuring inspiring figures of the LGBTQ community, created and handmade by Philadelphia artist and activist Robin Markle.

Rickie Vasquez is a fictional character played by Wilson Cruz on the 90’s hit drama My So-Called Life. And who didn’t have a crush on Rickie? Whose heart was not breaking when he had to put aside his queerness over and over just to survive at Liberty High? It was never totally clear what was going on at home for Rickie: living with extended family who seemed a little unstable, running away from home and sleeping on the streets. Rickie showed the real experiences of high school queers in a time when most shows were too afraid to grapple with these unwholesome topics.

Candle is hand-poured with soy wax and burns for approximately 10 hours. Glass votives are 2.5in high and 2in wide at the base.
